Coyote on the Hunt / by Ed Shanahan

A lone coyote approaches the carcass of a bison shortly after dawn on the broad plain of the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park.  The coyote was cautious and circled in, paused and doubled backed from its meal as it heard wolves, perhaps a mile distant across the plain, give warning to it to stay away.  We watched hoping for a grizzly which never showed.  More on the coyote and wolves later.
